A massive thank you to everyone that bought tickets, we really appreciate the support. We sold approximately 450 tickets - the proceeds, combined with the other donations we received, should enable us to extend our education bursaries beyond the five children we are already supporting. A special word of thanks has to go out to our prize sponsor's; Volcan Bikes, Birch's Man and Tavcor Volkswagen and for the evening's entertainment and food; Cottonfields and Nattis. Without your support this years raffle would not be possible.

Here's to our Heroes - 02/09/2014

For most, the 1st of September is a date of significance as it marks the start of Spring. For a few of the Heroes of the Michael Giddy Fund, it’s a date of nervous tension as the entries for the Comrades Marathon open which forces us to get a spring in our step as a 1000km of training looms.

It was a year ago that the fundraising drive for the Michael Giddy Fund started in earnest and as we prepare to tie the laces of our running shoes once again and along with it prepare for our next round of fundraising events, we find ourselves reflecting on the fortunate position you have placed the fund in.

The build up to Comrades 2014 was energized as it was accompanied by several Michael Giddy Fund events including a Golf Day in the UK, a mountain bike raffle where 600 tickets were sold, awareness talks at a few running events, an interview on Radio Algoa, a training run for 100 participants and a fundraising evening at Natiis restaurant. The support the fund received over this period was phenomenal - we wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of the Heroes that supported the fund in different ways. We started this campaign with a "Hope for Heroes", yet the sheer number of Heroes that pledged their support was humbling. The tangible value of your support is that the fund has been able to commit to paying the school fees of three children in full for the 2015 academic year! In addition to this commitment, we are able to start a contribution towards these children’s tertiary education and have plans to expand the support to other children. A massive thank you!!!

We expect the build up to Comrades 2015 to be no less energized and look forward to interacting with you during our upcoming fundraisers. Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for details.

Finding the right words to show appreciation seem impossible. The support that was displayed for the Michael Hoskins Giddy Education Fund was truly remarkable and one that leaves a person filled with incredible pride for what has been achieved yet humbled by the generosity of so many.

Comrades Roadshow - Meeting Brad Brown: 25/02/2014

Meeting Brad

Mark had a fantastic opportunity to talk to Brad Brown about the Michael Hoskins Giddy Fund on his RunTalkSA podcast (if you don't subscribe do it, it's perfect to keep up to date with running in SA). Have a listen and get hold of one of the boys to get involved. To listen to the podcast click here.

Bay Ultra - 50km: 22/02/2014

This past weekend saw 3 of the lads take on the Bay Utlra. Fueled by nerves, and overly-armed with fuel supplements, the guys set off on Port Elizabeth's toughest 50km. After a very long 4 and a half hours of steady running, we pushed past the 45km mark, with the sinking feeling that not only had the vasoline worn off very sensitive parts of our anatomy, but infact we would only be half way on the day of Comrades!

50 Km 2Gazza

Proudly wearing our Giddy Kit, we crossed the line in 5 hours 13 minutes feeling relieve that our first 50km was safely behind us. The crazy part of this was that this would only be the start of the serious mileage that we have to put in in the next 2 months.

50 Km

Well done to Gazza, Matt and Warren! Big one under the belt. Keep pounding that pavement, lads.

Kit Launch: 12/02/2014
